The programme started with a guided tour through the historical centre of Banská Štiavnica, which was a demonstration of good and bad examples of monument protection in the field of restoration, maintenance and operation. This tour was led by architect Pavel Fabian. He pointed out many factors that contribute to the final quality of monument restoration.
The tour was followed by a discussion in the Jozef Kollar Gallery. The topic of the discussion was based on the need and fundamental importance of preventive protection and maintenance of monuments. Pavel Fabian was joined in the discussion by the following speakers: architect and conservationist Uršuľa Ivanová and Ivan Farárik, a member of the team of the Department of Preventive Maintenance of Monuments of the Monuments Office of the Slovak Republic - Pro Monumenta. The informal debate also opened up a number of other problematic areas, as well as inspiring ideas that could contribute to raising awareness of cultural heritage.
